ANS Student Conference

March 31st – April 3rd

Please read all of the following if you plan to go! (Which you should!)

Hey y’all,

The ANS Student conference is coming up, and we are so excited!! One of our goals was to have even more students attend this conference than ever before! This is a chance to grow together as a champion, develop your professional network, learn about the front line of research in every aspect of Nuclear, and create unforgettable memories! This is the website for the conference. A few things to think about:

  • The call for summaries is open! So start putting yours together. If you have any questions about these, please check the website, or feel free to email Greg. Submission deadline is February 8.
  • For you business savvy folks, this conference has a focus on entrepreneurship, including a competition. See the website for details!
  • The Human Factors, Instrumentation and Control (HFIC) division is offering an award of $500 to the best presentation in their division. If you would like some help in getting research to present in this division, we encourage you to emailDr. Coble, as she has much opportunity in this field for research!

From your Treasurer:

You are encouraged to register for National American Nuclear Society membership as it is only $30 which would save you $10 in the long run and provide other ANS goodies. Being a member of your collegiate ANS does not mean that you have National ANS membership. Regardless, if you plan on touring any facilities at the Student Conference, there are a few deadlines for registration and personal information to be observed.

For those students who do not have a sponsor for this trip (i.e. faculty, work, etc), UTK ANS will be providing both transportation to and from Madison, Wisconsin and lodging through the Madison Concourse Hotel for a small nominal fee ($35). Any interest by attendees should be made in this google doc by January 31st. A hard deadline for nominal fee collection will be February 17th, at this point I will be registering all parties who have paid for the lodging and transportation. There will be no refunds after this point if you cannot attend but you may transfer the rights of lodging and transportation to another individual who wants to go in your stead assuming they have paid student conference registration.

Costs Expected to any Students who are having transportation and lodging provided through UTK-ANS:

UT ANS Button Downs

We are working on designing and ordering button down shirts with our logo for use at conferences and other business casual locations! They will be smokey gray with our logo (at the top of this email) on the side. These will cost what it does to make them! We want everyone to get one to show off our UT pride at professional locations and events! We are projecting ~$30-35.

The officers will be acquiring orange button downs with a white version of the logo. We’ll be able to make a Big Orange show out at conferences!
